The text, video device, and updated reading
Written in 1967, SCUM Manifesto was initially mimeographed and self-published by Valerie Solanas and artisanally released (it was sold by mail-order for two dollars and peddled in the streets for one dollar). SCUM was then published in August 1968 by Maurice Girodias at Olympia Press in the United Sates. After being published as extracts in January 1971 in the underground monthly magazine Actuel, directed by Jean-François Bizot, the first complete French edition of the text, translated by Emmanuèle de Lesseps, was pub-lished the same year by the publishing house La Nouvelle Société, as part of their Olympia collection.
In August 1976, Carole Roussopoulos and Delphine Seyrig de-cided to revisit this “historical and visionary text that some people find crazy, and others not so crazy” 15. The video concludes that they proposed a performed reading of selected passages because this founding manifesto of global radical feminism, which Delphine
