“The function of written or oral commentary is to provide a modicum of information about a subject. It can never hope to include the entirety of latent layers involved and nothing can be done to alter this fact. Commentary is therefore only a partial form of interpretation, and language further reduces the subject’s reality to an even smaller fraction of itself. However, what if the commentary should become an object in its own right, the original subject serving as a starting point? This is what we tried to do in company with the students from Limoges. I thank them and their teacher for having encouraged me to voice my thoughts.”
