The Ministry of Culture under the support for public commissions programme assists this commission. Support for public art commissions materialises the desire of the State, the Ministry of Culture, combined with numerous partners (regional authorities, public establishments and private part-ners), to disseminate contemporary crea-tion, enrich our quality of life and national heritage, through the presence of works of art beyond institutions specialised in the field of contemporary art.

Commissioning public art also enables artists to carry out projects for which the scope, challenges and dimensions require

specific resources. This voluntary scheme has given new impetus to art in public spaces. Featuring in various places from urban spaces to rural settings, historic monuments to gardens and tourist sites to the very public realm of the Internet, art of today in public spaces involves a wide vari-ety of visual expression including sculpture, photography, graphic arts, design and new medias.

This support for creation from the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Artistic Creation rises to the challenge of increasing contemporary art audiences and encour-aging artists to create unprecedented and

outstanding works of art.

This commission is supported by the Fondation de France’s Social life and Citizenship and Access for Everyone to Everything programme.
